-2017-

A Year in Review

2017 has been incredible for me. I had entered the year working a part-time job, feeling creatively burnt out and confused, yet hopeful for a fun year getting into wedding photography. I started the year off challenging myself by taking self portraits, pushing my abilities and trying new concepts and techniques. I knew that I wanted to make this my life… I had to. I left the part-time job in February, forcing myself right into the full-time photography life. I started learning how to run a business and make money now that I truly had nothing behind me as failsafe. I shot, edited & delivered 11 engagement sessions in one month, the last one being 1 day before I left on my roadtrip down the west coast.

I experienced new memories and I saw some incredible places. Somehow I hiked 8km uphill in Yosemite to the top of a waterfall, I listened to coyotes howling in the night as I looked up at the stars in Joshua Tree. I lived out of my car in Walmart parking lots, random neighbourhoods, camped out in the forests of Oregon, met and had dinner with rad strangers at a hostel in Moab, Utah, Drove multiple 15 hour days, looked out towards the grand canyon, walked through antelope canyon, watched the sunset behind Horseshoe Bend with thousands of other “tourists”. There’s so much I did in that one month on the road and I honestly can’t wait for whatever my next adventure holds.

I got home just in time for wedding season and had the craziest, busiest and awesome summer of my life. I grew as a photographer, as a human being, as a friend, a son. I met some of the best people this year and had an incredible time figuring out my life. I’m so grateful for everyone who has been a part of this journey with me, thank you.

It’s corny to say but I seriously can’t wait to do it all again and more in 2018.

To good times and fun adventures!

Tom
